Doing More – Together!
Sometimes the needs in our cities and communities seem overwhelming, but “the power of us” means we can do more—together!
“Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom.”
— George Washington Carver
Providing educational opportunities for children, especially at the elementary level, opens the door to a wider array of positive choices and, ultimately, a better life. Children who are not reading on grade level by the 3rd grade are four times more likely to eventually drop out of school completely, thus closing numerous doors to their future. We support educational efforts in northeast Oklahoma City and other targeted locations within our areas of operation.
Kids in Crisis
“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
— Nelson Mandela
As a society, one of the most important things we can do is ensure that every child has food to eat, clothes to wear and a stable home environment – one that is loving, caring, nurturing and that will prepare them for a future of success. Many children, however, lack the basic needs to get them started down the right path. Our goal is to help mitigate some of the circumstances faced by children early in life so they can develop the skills necessary to be successful in all areas of their lives.
SandRidge partners with groups such as White Fields, Infant Crisis Services, Angels Foster Family Services, Christian Services for Oklahoma, Youth Services of Oklahoma County, Special Care, OKC Educare, and many others that positively affect the lives or children in need throughout our communities.
Second Chances and Beyond
“We’re given second chances every day of our life. We don’t usually take them, but they’re there for the taking.”
— Andrew M. Greeley
Every day we are given second chances to start over and make today better than yesterday. We believe it’s important to ensure others have the opportunity to begin again after dealing with the consequences of their choices or the choices of others that have affected their lives. To that end, we work with various agencies that assist men and women who have faced incarceration, are homeless or at risk of homelessness or are facing various other hardships, to find a new lease on life.
Oklahoma has one of the highest overall per capita incarceration rates of any state and the single highest rate of female incarceration – nearly double the national average. Most offenders, particularly women, are incarcerated for nonviolent or drug offenses. Moreover, once released, most face enormous challenges to re-integrate into society. SandRidge believes that with the right kind of structure and care, many can return to their families and lead healthy, productive lives.
Homelessness continues to be a major concern, both in Oklahoma and across the country, which is why SandRidge partners with agencies where people who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless can receive the services they need to achieve long-term stability. We also work with agencies that support those dealing with the issues of substance abuse and domestic violence.
Some partners in our second chance efforts are the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank, City Rescue Mission, Homeless Alliance, ReMerge, ReProject, Bill Johnson Correctional Center in Alva, Living Faith and Living Hope, Spero Project, Tapestry Project, and the YWCA.
Caring for Our Communities
“Heroes are not giant statues framed against a red sky. They are people who say: This is my community, and it is my responsibility to make it better.”
— Studs Terkel
SandRidge is a company that derives its energy from the people who work here. But they don’t just work here, they live here. They’re our friends, our neighbors and members of the cities and towns we call home. They inspire us to do our part to make our communities better. They are the power of us personified! Whether it’s in downtown Oklahoma City, or one of our many field operating locations, our commitment to community is the same: to positively impact those who live, work and play in the areas where we do the same. Through endeavors like supporting the development of the SandRidge Youth Pavilion, conducting food drives at our field offices, participating in the Santa Run or the OKC Pro-Am Classic Criterium, we are committed to making a difference in our communities and keeping the spirit of Oklahoma City alive.
